The Bowery in Arkham Origins.

The Bowery was a commercial district of Old Gotham and later became home of the mega-prison known as Arkham City.

Description[]

The Bowery borders Park Row to the north and, prior to the construction of Arkham City, Sheldon Park to the east. The district centers around Jezebel Center, a covered shopping gallery with a series of bridges and balcony walkways linked to shops throughout the area. The center was also accessible both by the Subway and the Gotham Monorail. Notable locations included The Cyrus Pinkney Institute for Natural History, the Iceberg Lounge, the Gotham Merchant's Bank, the Carmine Hotel and the Maroni Family Restaurant.

Incident Report[]

Arkham Origins Incident[]

At that time, the district was still lively, and Jezebel Center was richly decorated for Christmas. With the whole area being evacuated because of the storm, an arms deal between The Penguin's Henchmen and Gotham criminals took place on Christmas Eve at Jezebel Plaza. Batman interrupted the arms deal and interrogated Ricky "Loose Lips" Leblanc on Cobblepot's location.

Between Arkham Origins and Arkham City Incident[]

The Bowery, like the rest of Old Gotham, declined under the spreading criminality. Jezebel Center became a ghost of its past and The Cyrus Pinkney Institute for Natural History was shut down by the Gotham City Council and was then sold to the Penguin when no one else wanted to buy the area. The Museum was then turned into both the Iceberg Lounge and Penguin's fortress.

Sometime prior to the opening of Arkham City, the Maroni's were wiped out when their rival, The Falcone Crime Family, surrounded their restaurant during a meeting and gunned most of them down.

Arkham City Incident[]

The Bowery was one of the areas of Gotham City that became part of Arkham City. Penguin, after he refused to abandon his holdings in the district when the prison opened, was walled into it after he violently resisted eviction. Penguin and his henchmen counted the Bowery as their home turf and used the Museum and the Iceberg Lounge as their base of operations. The Bowery was also the main entrance to Arkham City from the prison's large gate.

When The Joker infected Batman with his tainted blood and threatened to do the same to others in Gotham, Batman was forced to venture into the Bowery in search of Mr. Freeze, who was held captive by Penguin, in hopes that Freeze could make a cure. Batman destroyed three nearby jammers in order to infiltrate the Museum to rescue Freeze as well as some infiltrated GCPD officers that were detained by Cobblepot. Batman fought through Sickle and the rest of Penguin's Henchmen navigated around Tiny and defeated Solomon Grundy.

Batman also went through the disused Subway to reach Wonder City at the base of Wonder Tower. That access also led to the Sewers under the Industrial District of Old Gotham.

Batman could return to the Bowery later to defeat The Riddler, whose lair was located in a shutdown Gotham Railway Station.
