The Remote Control Batarang is a type of Batarang able to be manually controlled once released. Useful for hitting objects out of reach, the device is built with brakes and acceleration, and allows fine control over its movements. If sent through electricity, they retain the charge and can blow out fuse boxes to open doors.

Gameplay[]

Batman: Arkham Origins[]

As with its Arkham City counterpart, this Remote Controlled Batarang functioned the same, with built-in brakes and acceleration controls that proved useful for activating switches that were out of reach, or conduct electricity to activate fuse boxes.

Similarly to how it happened in Arkham City, Batman used a Reverse Batarang to take out the Mad Hatter.

Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer[]

The Remote Control Batarang still functioned similar to its Arkham City and Arkham Origins counterparts.

Batman: Arkham Origins Cold Cold Heart[]

The Remote Control Batarang functioned similar to its Arkham City and Arkham Origins counterparts.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate[]

Batman: Arkham Asylum[]

In Batman: Arkham Asylum, the Remote Control Batarang could be steered through complex flights, and was able to take out several enemies at once. It had to be "recharged" before reusing it. Catching a remote Control Batarang, will earn the Achievement/Trophy "Catch!".

Batman: Arkham City[]

In Batman: Arkham City, the Remote Control Batarang was built with brakes and acceleration, and provided fine control over its movements. If it went through electricity, it was able to blow out fuse boxes. An upgrade acquired through the main story, called Reverse Batarang, summed up to the ability for it to, once thrown, travel around an enemy, hit them from behind and confuse them, turning their backs to Batman, this was used in the Story mode to take out Ra's Al Ghul when he was threatening his daughter Talia.

Robin used a similar gadget called the Remote Control Shuriken which had the same function.

Batman: Arkham Knight[]

In Batman: Arkham Knight, the Remote Control Batarang was similar to City, but improved. It was easier to control and bounced off surfaces, unlike in Arkham City, where it would cease control as soon as an obstacle was hit. However, unlike City or Origins, the reverse option was not gained throughout the story, but instead as a WayneTech Upgrade. It also was now equipped with a scanner, being able to detect id tags through walls, micro-explosives wired into a thug's brain, and Optic Camouflage Soldiers.

Trivia[]

  • If you tried to throw a Remote Control Batarang at Deadshot, he shot it in mid-air. This also applied to The Arkham Knight during the fight against him on the Militia HQ.
  • If you threw a Remote Control Batarang and then steered it toward Batman, he would catch it back.
  • Some NPCs could also catch the Batarang in Mid-flight:
    • Azrael in Arkham City. Letting him catch one awards the player the "Catch" trophy/achievement, a throwback to the trophy name in Asylum.
    • Every ally in Batman: Arkham Knight was capable of this feat. However, Azrael could not, as he was always kneeling when found in Free Roam.
  • In Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Origins using an Remote Controlled Batarang charged with electricity against a thug will instantly take them out.
  • Similarly, in Riddler's Revenge challenges, there is a modification that allows the character's main gadget to instantly take out thugs with one hit, and Batman's Batarangs in this scenario can be seen as being electrified.
  • The Remote Control Batarang is one of only five gadgets to appear in all Arkham games so far: the others are the Batarang, the Explosive Gel, the Line Launcher and the Batclaw.
