Inverted Takedown

The Inverted Takedown is a Takedown in Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Batman: Arkham Knight, in which Batman grabs an enemy that is passing underneath a Gargoyle or another Vantage Point and leaves them dangling from it by a cable tied to their legs. The enemy eventually falls unconscious, but not before drawing the attention of other enemies with their (understandably) panicking. Thus, it is advised to quickly make an escape to a different location.

However, the Inverted Takedown is also useful for drawing enemies away from other areas long enough to pick off stragglers or to set up traps.

After an Inverted Takedown, the Vantage Point may not be used for further Inverted Takedowns, unless the rope which held the enemy in place was severed with a Batarang, and sent him to the ground. In Arkham Knight, enemies shot the rope, but the fallen enemy was always unconscious, even if he was freed immediately after being grabbed.

In Knight, when sitting on a Vantage Point, Batman could perform a Fear Multi-Takedown, but instead of suspending an enemy, he simply jumped on top of them. Other allies, who had access to the Fear Takedown, could not initiate the move from a Vantage Point.

Trivia

  • Dick Grayson, as Robin, could perform that move in Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer, but instead of grabbing the enemy, he simply grappled down and choked them with his legs, and the move was much slower, which left him vulnerable if he was seen.
  • Due to his Remote Claw, Deathstroke could technically perform that move, but was unable to perform it from a Vantage Point himself.
  • Oracle, as Batgirl, could also perform an Inverted Takedown.
